Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often

Is the energy assessment really free?

Yes — completely free, with no obligation. Our assessment helps us identify what programs and upgrades you qualify for. There's no pressure to commit to anything.

How do I know if I qualify for the EmPower+ program?

If you receive SNAP, HEAP, TANF, or SSI benefits, you automatically qualify — no income documentation required. Otherwise, your household income needs to be at or below 80% of the New York State median income. We'll confirm your eligibility quickly during your free consultation.

How long does the whole process take?

From application to completed upgrades typically takes 4–8 weeks, depending on your area and the scope of work. We keep you informed every step of the way.

Can renters apply for EmPower+?

Yes — renters of 1–4 unit homes can qualify for EmPower+. You'll need your landlord's written permission for any physical improvements to the property. We can provide the consent form for your landlord to sign.

What utility providers are accepted?

EmPower+ works with most major New York utilities including National Grid, NYSEG, Central Hudson, Con Edison, RG&E, and Orange & Rockland. Contact us to confirm your utility qualifies.

Do I have to pay anything upfront?

For lower-income eligible households, there is zero cost. For moderate-income households, the program covers up to 50% of costs (up to $5,000) and we'll discuss your share before any work begins — no surprises.
